Students used chalk on black construction paper to draw baby penguins with soft, smudged shading. The bold outlines were created from black oil pastel. Then we painted bright winter backgrounds with tempera on cartridge paper, and added snowflakes, snow hills, shadows, and vibrant skies to complete the chilly scene.
