In this project, students captured the essence of fall by creating a collage. We began with a walking excursion to the ravine to notice signs of fall. Inspired by their observations, students painted abstract watercolour backgrounds in warm seasonal colours - reds, oranges, yellows, and browns. On top of these backgrounds, they layered hand-cut leaves, each decorated with unique textures and outlines.
This project served as an open-ended, accessible entry point for all learners, as the flexible nature of collage allowed students to experiment freely without the fear of making mistakes.
Throughout the process, students were encouraged to consider composition and layering.
Medium: mixed media (watercolour on watercolour paper, paper collage, tissue paper, oil pastel, newsprint)
