Students created landscape paintings inspired by Monet’s Water Lilies series. Using oil pastels to sketch the iconic bridge and landscape details, they explored an oil pastel–resist technique that allowed the lines to shine through the watercolour washes.
To experiment with Monet’s impressionistic style, students used a dabbing and stippling technique with their brushes, building layers of colour to suggest shimmering water and reflections. The waterlilies were made from small pieces of tissue paper.
This project introduced students to Impressionism while encouraging them to experiment with colour, texture, and expressive mark-making.
