Every Lunar New Year, a new animal is celebrated. The fun in creating an art project is centred around the animal for that particular year. Here, the Year of the Dragon and the Year of the Rabbit are highlighted.
In the dragon project, students used a file folder to create the structure of the dragon’s head. The crease of the folder lends itself perfectly to creating a pop-up effect. Construction paper, paint, and tissue were added to bring the dragon to life.
In the rabbit project, students experimented with ancient Chinese brush painting. The technique involves using a slightly dry brush for mark-making so that each brushstroke remains visible on the page.
